Life Passages — Baptisms, Weddings, and Funerals

Baptism

Simply put, the sacrament of Baptism is the way in which the church welcomes people into the family of God. God’s love for the world has been declared through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In Baptism we respond to God’s love by declaring our desire to live our lives in an awareness of God’s constant love and presence. Baptism is the sign of new life in Jesus Christ. When we are baptised we become members of the household of God and join with others on their Christian journey, seeking and giving support to one another.

Frequently Asked Questions about Baptism

Who are the Sponsors?

At least one sponsor (Godparent) is required. This person must be baptized themselves and it would be helpful if they were active in a church family. They do not have to be Anglican.

Is there a fee?

There is no fee charged by the church or the pastor for baptism. If you would like, you may choose to make a donation to the church at the time of the baptism.

How do I find out more?

Please speak to the pastor and arrange a time to meet with her to discuss your questions further.

Do I need to be re-baptized?

If you were baptized in any Christian church at any age you do not need to be re-baptized. If you would like to re-affirm your vows, this can be done during a Baptism service.

Wedding

In Christian marriage, two people declare publically their love for one another, giving voice to their hopes and dreams for life-long love and companionship, for friendship and fidelity, for encouragement and support, for growth and challenge in their relationship with each other, with God and with creation. The couple being joined by Holy Matrimony do so knowing they do not do so alone, but with God’s help and with the support of the Christian community around them.

Frequently Asked Questions about Marriage

When can we get married?

The rules of the church require that the request to marry be made to the minister no less than 60 days before the proposed date of the wedding. It is advisable to confirm a date with the pastor BEFORE booking your banquet hall.

Do we have to get married in the church?

In most situations, the church is the most appropriate and preferred place in which to celebrate a Christian wedding. If your situation is unique, this can be discussed with the pastor.

What kind of service can we have?

Although there is flexibility in the marriage service for some creativity, the details about the service are to be discussed directly with the priest.

Is there a fee?

The fees for Weddings at All Saints range from about $400 to about $600 depending on the size and type of wedding, and whether or not the couple are members of the parish.

Funeral Services and Memorials

A life lived, whether short or long, is cherished by those who loved and knew the one who has died. A funeral or memorial service provides a sacred space and time to grieve this loss and to take some comfort from others who wish to offer their support and prayers. A Christian funeral makes room for questions and offers hope to those who mourn.
